Mission Trips
The Basics
The smallest nation in Central Asia, eight million people call Tajikistan home. This landlocked country is covered in mountainous terrain, making it a popular spot for climbers and adventure seekers.
Formerly part of the Soviet Union, the nation declared independence in 1991 and spent the next five years in civil war. After becoming politically stable in 1997, the nation’s economy improved.
Still, around 20% of the population live on less than $1.25 a day.
With 90% of Tajiks following Islam, most have never heard of Jesus Christ.
Will you share the Gospel in this beautiful country?
Culture
When greeting someone, it is respectful to place the left hand over the heart and give a slight bow.
As it is a mostly conservative Muslim culture, visiting women should be extra careful to dress modestly and conservatively.
Explore
The Pamir Highway is rumored to be one of the most beautiful stretches of road in the world.
Walk through Rudaki Park in Dushanbe and see ancient monuments and remnants of Tajik Soviet history. While in Dushanbe, be sure to check out the museums and the botanical garden.
